Ayr Running Festival
Lang Scots Mile Races and 10k Road Race
“But hark there is a measured mile
Fashioned in the Lang Scots style
And rins along the Bonnie coast
Auld Ayr can rightfully claim its boast”
Ian Downie – local poet inspired by Robert Burns aka the “Bard of Ayrshire”
Inspiring – Inclusive – Iconic
Go the 1,984 yards with family and friends – the iconic ‘Lang Scots Mile‘ is set to be raced for the first time as part of the build up to the Scottish International Airshow, with an additional brand new 10k event, promising a fast and flat route taking in beautiful scenery and iconic historic buildings.

Ayr Running Festival 10K
A fast, flat and inclusive event. Whatever your goal, take part with family and friends in this superb event over a fantastic route in an ideal location.
Why an Ayr Running Festival?
Following the success of bringing The Scottish international Airshow (TSIA) to Ayr, with the support of South Ayrshire Council and a partnership with TSIA, an idea was born to have a weekend of inspiring and inclusive running events.
“Exciting” and “inclusive’ is part of the fabric of Cannonball Events, so when the opportunity to become a partner in this exciting festival came about we fired towards it “faster than a cannonball…”. Cannonball Events have many innovative running events in their portfolio, including one of the biggest Ultras in the UK (“The Canalathon”), why not check them out by clicking the logo below.
The events are suitable for all abilities, from beginners to the elites and The Lang Scots Mile is ideal for wheelchair athletes too. With a flat course in both events we see this a perfect opportunity to set a PB and/or set a new time in a new distance event (The Lang Scots Mile).
We will be visiting schools, local community clubs and running clubs in the run up to the events.
If you can’t take part in the races, we want people from the local community to feel included, so why not register here to get involved as a marshal (full training will be given)?

What time do I need to arrive?
Where can I park on race day?
Where do I get my race number?
Is there anywhere to leave my kit?
Yes for the 10K event which includes kit security, it will be clearly signed.
Where is the start / finish of the races?
I am an elite athlete, what are the entry requirements?
Will there be official photographers available?
Yes, we will have a professional photographer on the courses to capture the day. Photographs will be available shortly after the event for media and runners.
If you wish to be exempt from having your photograph taken or you do not wish an under 18 participants to be photographed please click here.
I like to run with headphones, is this allowed?
In April 2016 UK Athletics banned the use of headphones in all road races with any length of open single carriageway and in any race in which the race directors have identified hazards. We have taken the decision to ban headphones of any type from all our races. We believe athletes need to be able to hear instructions and warnings from marshals, other athletes and member of the public. Any athlete ignoring this rule will be disqualified and removed from the results with no refund.
When will the results be published?
Provisional results will be online shortly after the race, usually within a matter of minutes. The results are provisional and will not be sent to third party websites until the relevant checks have been made.
Will there be water stations?
YES, at the 5k mark and the 10k for the 10k race only. Water will be available at the finish for the Lang Scots Mile.
What is the Cancellation and Refund Policy?
The moment you enter our race we start to incur administration costs and banking charges, simply in processing your entry and payment. We also incur further charges in administering cancellations and processing refund payments.
No refund can be given if the race has to be cancelled or postponed due to circumstances outside our control, for instance by order of the government due to foot and mouth, the weather etc. Your entry fee is invested in the cost of staging the event, and the main costs from contractors, suppliers, administration are already committed well before race day.
Where possible we will look to restage the race, however with a very busy calendar and various orgainsational3 factors to consider this may not always be humanly possible.
However, in fairness to runners who cannot compete for whatever reason, those applicants who cancel their entry before the date we start to process our race pack 5 weeks before race day will now be offered:
- £5 credit towards another cannonball race for 5k, trail and fell races
- a partial refund of £5 (or a £7.00 credit towards the cost of a Guaranteed Entry in the following year’s Race) for 10k races
Entries are personal to the applicant, and race numbers cannot be sold or transferred. Any runner who competes in another person’s race number will be disqualified.
Duplicate entries made in genuine error will be refunded in full.
We reserve the right to cancel all entries and donate all entry fees to one of the race charities where we have reason to believe that duplicate entries have been deliberately made by an applicant with the intention of subsequent re-sale – ie ‘ticket touting’.
